"The Sudanese Girl" photographed by Kevin Carter

This picture first appeared in The New York Times on Marck 26, 1993. Carter who photographed this picture, awared the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography on March 23, 1994. However, the honor and money that he achieved from the photo could not make him happy. On July 27, 1994, he suicede by inhaling carbon monoxide poisoning at the age of 33.

This happened when Carter made a trip to southern Sudan. He met this young emaciated Sudanese girl, resting from struggling to a feeding center and a vulture had landed nearby, waiting for her death. After 20 mins, Carter snapped the photo and chased a vurture away. However, he could not saved a girl.

Although this photo brought him a lot of glory and honor, he could not avoid the heavy criticism, not helping a girl. This is a tragic story about young man who photographed for money led him into suicide because of a guilty conscience.
